Shimla, July 28 -- Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Rajya Sabha MP Harsh Mahajan on Monday met Union home minister Amit Shah in Delhi and briefed him regarding the current political, economic, and administrative situation in Himachal Pradesh. He blamed the Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu-led Congress government's "fiscal mismanagement" for the mounting debt and stalling of development in the state. In a statement issued after the meeting on Monday, Mahajan stated that he briefed the Union home minister extensively on the conditions arising under the Congress government's tenure, including financial mismanagement, corruption, the stalling of development projects, and the state of disaster management. "Financial discipline has completely vanished since the Congress government took office in the state. Without any foresight, the government has pushed the state under a massive debt burden. Congress government has already borrowed over Rs.1.10 lakh crore, yet development work in the state remains completely stalled," Mahajan told the union minister. Mahajan added that the Congress government has also proven to be a complete "failure" in handling disaster management in Himachal. "The government possesses neither prior preparedness nor a concrete action plan. Following every disaster, the Congress government merely attempts to mask its failures by shifting the blame onto the Centre," said Mahajan.
