Jammu, Aug. 22 -- Massive protests rocked Kishtwar district after Friday prayers following the death of a 14-year-old Class 5 schoolgirl. According to police, the minor girl was allegedly raped multiple times and impregnated by a government school teacher in Chatroo sub-division in Kishtwar district. The accused, identified as Khalid Hussain Sheikh, 42, is father of three daughters, and a son and employed as a headmaster at the school. "It seems that the accused sexually assaulted the minor girl over a period of time that led to her pregnancy of seven to eight months," said a police officer. Following public outrage and protests in the Chatroo subdivision, the police arrested the accused and his brother, Tariq Hussain, and booked them under relevant sections of the law. Police said that the first information report (FIR) has been registered under Sections 61(2) and 65(1) (criminal conspiracy), 90 (death caused by an act done with intent to cause a miscarriage), 91 (any act done before a child's birth with intent to prevent the child from being born alive or to cause its death after birth), and 92 (causing death of an unborn child) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), as well as Sections 4, 6 (penetrative sexual assault against a minor), 8 (sexual assault), 10 (aggravated sexual assault), and 17 (instigating, conspiring, or aiding in committing a crime) of the POCSO Act. Asif Iqbal Naik, a senior journalist from Kishtwar, said, "The minor girl was orally administered medication to terminate her pregnancy. When her condition deteriorated, she was rushed to the Kishtwar hospital, from where she was referred to the Doda hospital. Eventually, an ambulance was hired to take her to Punjab; however, she died en route on Dhar Road on Thursday. According to the police, information was received that a minor girl had died under suspicious circumstances and her body was lying at the Kishtwar hospital. A police team, including SI Ghulam Mohammad Butt, went to the hospital, took custody of the deceased's body and that of her stillborn baby, and sent them for post-mortem and DNA sampling. According to the police, statements of the deceased's father and other persons were recorded. It was found that the victim was a Class 5 student at the same school from where the accused was posted. The FIR said that the accused, posted as headmaster at the school, established an illicit relationship with the minor girl and allegedly committed rape upon her, resulting in her pregnancy. The FIR said that Khalid Hussain allegedly threatened the family members of the deceased and offered them money to suppress the matter. Tariq Hussain, the brother of the accused, connived with him to forcibly administer medication to the minor girl to terminate her pregnancy. The FIR claimed that because of this forced termination, the minor girl-who delivered a stillborn baby-also died. Meanwhile, the chief education officer of Kishtwar district has suspended the accused teacher with immediate effect. According to the order, Khalid Hussain Sheikh was placed under suspension in terms of Rule 31 of the Jammu and Kashmir Civil Services (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules, 1956, pending an enquiry into the matter due to his police custody....
