BJP holds protest over J&K statehood resolution
Srinagar, Oct. 1 -- The Bharatiya Janata Party held a protest in Srinagar on Wednesday and burnt an effigy of chief minister Omar Abdullah, protesting against the National Conference-led J&K government over the assembly resolution on statehood, which had references to autonomy and special status.
Many BJP activists and leaders assembled and protested outside its party head office in Jawahar Nagar and raised slogans against the state government.
BJP spokesperson Altaf Thakur said that the NC government was raising pre-1953 issues to divert attention from public welfare. "They want to divert the attention from public issues and are raising the issues of autonomy or the 1953 position. There is only one reason for that, and that is their failure to fulfil their promises. That is why we are seeing daily wagers and NHM employees protesting on roads," Thakur said. The protesters demanded Abdullah's resignation and the dissolution of the government.
"Omar Abdullah's governance has failed. To divert attention, they are raising the autonomy issuel," Thakur said....
