Dharamshala, Aug. 11 -- The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Shimla, has issued heavy rainfall alerts in nine districts of Himachal Pradesh for August 11. The weather office has sounded an orange alert of heavy to very heavy rainfall in Kangra, Mandi and Sirmaur districts, while a yellow alert of heavy rainfall has been sounded in six districts: Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Chamba, Shimla and Solan districts. The heavy rainfall is expected to continue in Himachal till August 16. For August 12, a yellow alert of heavy rainfall has been sounded in Bilaspur, Chamba, Kangra, Mandi, Solan and Sirmaur districts, followed by a similar alert on August 13 in Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Chamba, Kangra and Mandi districts. On Monday rainfall continued in several places in Himachal including Shimla, Dharamshala and Chamba. During the last 24 hours, light to moderate rainfall was observed at many places in the state. The highest rainfall of 6 cm was recorded in Dharamshala, followed by Arki (5 cm), Theog (4 cm), Shimla (4 cm), Shimla Aero (3 cm), Ghaghas (3 cm), Sarahan (3 cm), Slapper (2 cm), Murari Devi (2 cm), Bilaspur Sadar (2 cm), Kufri (2 cm), Palampur (2 cm), Guler (1 cm) and Rajgarh (1 cm). Meanwhile, Himachal Pradesh has recorded 9% deficient rainfall during the monsoon season so far, with 414.5 mm of rainfall against the normal 455.5 mm between June 1 and August 10. Lahaul-Spiti has recorded the highest rainfall deficit at 52%, followed by Hamirpur at 45% and Mandi at 24%. Shimla and Kullu have recorded the highest excess rainfall, at 25% each. According to authorities, as many as 106 roads remained blocked in Himachal on Monday, with 40 roads closed in Kullu district alone, followed by 38 road closures in Mandi district and 9 in Shimla district.
