Work underway in Ajmer for fourth leopard safari of state
Ajmer, May 19 -- The Ganga-Bhairav Valley, spread across Kajipura, Kharekhadi, Ajaysar and nearby villages of Ajmer city, is being developed as a Leopard Safari, officials said on Monday.
According to the Forest Department, the proposed leopard safari will allow tourists to witness leopards and other wildlife in their natural habitat. Visitors will also be able to enjoy trekking routes across the valley and explore historical remains, including stables from the era of Prithviraj Chauhan, ancient military camps and heritage structures. Resting facilities will also be developed along the trekking routes.
This is one of the major dream project of Rajasthan Assembly Speaker Vasudev Devnani, he said that the project has an estimated cost of about Rs.19 crore, with initial work already started with an investment of around Rs.8 crore. Under the project, 7.5 km of damaged old tracks are being reconstructed, while 11.5 km of new tracks are being developed. In the first phase, nearly 11 km of track is being prepared, which will later be extended from Ajaysar Road to Happy Valley.
An entrance gate has already been constructed on Ajaysar Road. Ticket counters, parking areas and residential facilities for forest staff have been completed. Additional tourist facilities such as guard posts, parking, toilets and washrooms, selfie points, refreshment centers and other amenities are also being developed. Several water holes will be created inside the forest so that animals coming to drink water can be easily spotted by visitors.
Devnani stated that the leopard safari will provide Ajmer with a new identity as an eco-tourism destination.
Deputy conservator of forests P Bala Murugan said "The entire area is a protected forest zone and will be developed as a specially protected area after the safari begins. This will be the first leopard safari in the Ajmer division."...
