Jaipur/Bundi, Aug. 10 -- A pregnant woman died during childbirth at Women's Hospital on the Bundi District Hospital campus on Sunday, triggering protests by her family members, who alleged medical negligence and demanded action against the doctor concerned, police said. The deceased, identified as Nisha Meena (27), was a resident of Dhanatri village. Following her death, family members staged a protest at the hospital and accused a female doctor of negligence in her treatment. They demanded action against the doctor and refused to allow the body to be removed from the labour room. As tensions mounted, police and administrative officials reached the hospital and attempted to pacify the family members. Additional personnel from Kotwali police station and other police stations were called in as the protest escalated. A large police contingent was deployed around the hospital premises and at the main entrance to prevent any untoward incident. Dr Govind Gupta, co-incharge of the Women's Hospital, denied allegations of negligence. He said, "Nisha Meena was admitted to the hospital on August 7. At the time of admission, her cervix was not dilated, and the hospital's specialist team explained her condition to the family and advised a caesarean delivery.
