Jaipur, Sept. 5 -- Rajasthan is set to step up rural infrastructure spending, with the state government planning 3,219 km of new roads, classrooms in 2,000 rural schools and community toilets in villages. Chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma said the government's focus would be on creating durable infrastructure in villages while expanding employment and livelihood opportunities. He directed officials to ensure quality, transparency and timely completion of works, with projects at the gram panchayat level selected according to local needs and public utility. Under Phase IV of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), around 3,219 km of roads will be constructed to strengthen rural connectivity. Of this, 1,500 km is targeted for completion in 2026-27, with the remaining roads to be built in the following year. The government is also developing cement-concrete roads in rural areas with populations above 5,000 under the Atal Pragati Path scheme. So far, 764 works costing Rs.1,681 crore have been sanctioned, of which 309 have been completed. The education infrastructure push includes construction of classrooms in 2,000 rural schools at a cost of Rs.300 crore. Another Rs.81 crore will be spent on community toilets in rural schools. The state is also expanding facilities for rural youth and environmental infrastructure. A total of 9,134 village-level playgrounds have already been developed, while work on another 2,221 is expected to be completed soon. In addition, 457 Amrit Sanjeevani Parks are being developed at a cost of Rs 228 crore. Another 28,342 model ponds and Amrit Sarovars are under construction, while 457 Namo Nurseries are being developed at the block level.
