Jaipur, July 19 -- A contractor and a group of labourers allegedly divided a cache of gold, silver and antique coins discovered during the demolition of an old mansion in Jaipur without informing the property owner, prompting a police investigation.
The case pertains to the Manak Chowk police station area in Jaipur's walled city. Property owner Rohit Sethi filed an FIR on July 15, alleging, valuables unearthed during the demolition of his ancestral haveli were misappropriated by the contractor and his associates.
The complainant alleged that before the demolition began, he had instructed the contractor that any valuables discovered during the excavation must be handed over to the owner.
However, the FIR alleges that the contractor found 10-15 silver bars weighing around 40-45 kg, 14-15 gold vessels filled with gold coins, about 8,000-10,000 old silver coins and other valuables. Instead of informing, the contractor allegedly distributed the treasure among his associates.
