two workers killed in Massive fire at Pali guar gum factory
Barmer/Pali, Oct. 20 -- A massive fire at a guar gum factory in Pali district killed two workers and severely injured three, officials said, adding that a short circuit in the lift section is suspected to have triggered the blaze.
Pali sub-divisional magistrate Vimlendra Singh Ranawat said around 17 workers were on duty at Sarda Bio Polymers in Pali's Fourth Phase industrial area during the night shift on Sunday when fire broke out at 11.30 pm.
"A short circuit in a lift in the section where the workers were working is suspected to have triggered the fire, causing the flames to spread rapidly through the factory. The exact cause of fire remains to be confirmed," said Ranawat, adding 12 workers escaped, while two were reported missing. Three workers emerged from the factory with their clothes on fire and collapsed unconscious on the road. They were rushed to a hospital.
"The fire was brought under control around 4 am on Monday after nearly four-and-a-half hours of firefighting. The bodies of the two missing workers were recovered around 4 pm on Monday with the help of excavators and cranes, bringing the search operation to an end. Both bodies were severely charred, making identification difficult, and were shifted to the mortuary at Bangar Hospital in Pali. The injured were referred to Jodhpur for further treatment," Ranawat added.
The dead were identified as Nitish Kumar (20) and Upendra Rajvanshi (32), both residents of Bihar's Gaya district....
