Two Japanese tourists missing in Jaipur; search operation launched
Jaipur, Feb. 11 -- Two tourists from Japan who arrived in Jaipur for a trip went missing from a prominent fast-food joint in the city on Saturday night, officials said on Tuesday.
Inspector Moti Lal of Ashok Nagar police station said, "The incident took place on Saturday night following which their taxi driver approached us on Sunday. When we could not trace them in 24 hours, we lodged a report on Monday night."
According to officials, the tourists - Yuma Toyoda (25) and Hibiki Shiba (25) - arrived in Delhi on Friday before travelling to Jaipur on Saturday. "They had been staying at a hotel in the Brahmapuri area, from where they booked a taxi and left to visit a nearby fast-food joint for dinner late on Saturday night. However, they did not return from the restaurant while their taxi waited outside," he said.
At least two hours after they entered the place, the driver went to check on them but could not find them. "The restaurant staff meanwhile informed him that they left long back. The two tourists also left their bags in the taxi that had several documents including passports. They also did not return to the hotel," he said.
Police later checked the restaurant's CCTV footage, which revealed that the tourists left the place only five minutes after arriving. They neither ate nor met anyone.
"We have also checked at their hotel and gathered some details regarding their visit. They came to India for a six-day-long trip so their visa may expire on Thursday. Meanwhile, their mobile phones have been switched off since Saturday, raising concern. We waited for 24 hours for their return. But they are still missing," said the inspector.
