Tensions dissipate in Chomu, 110 detained
Jaipur, Dec. 28 -- Towns and markets have reopened in Chomu town on Saturday as normalcy returned following the tension that erupted in recent days, with additional police force deployed and continuous patrolling being carried out in sensitive areas as a precautionary measure to ensure law and order.
The unrest was triggered by a dispute over the installation of an iron railing near a religious place. The situation turned violent around midnight on Thursday, when members of a community allegedly resorted to stone-pelting at the police. The sudden outbreak of violence led to panic in the area, and several police personnel were injured in the incident. Senior police officers rushed to the spot and remained stationed there to control the situation.
As a preventive step, internet services in Chomu have been suspended for another 24 hours for the second consecutive day on Saturday.
Jaipur (West) DCP Hanuman Prasad Meena said the situation is currently under control, but additional police deployment has been retained as a precaution. He said that so far, 110 people have been detained in connection with the stone-pelting incident. Of these, 25 people have been formally arrested and cases have been registered against several of them.
Meena said all those involved in the violence have been identified using CCTV footage, video clips and local intelligence inputs, and further action is on....
