Jaipur, July 21 -- Rajasthan will roll out a telemedicine-based oncology consultation system across district medical colleges from August, enabling cancer patients to obtain specialist opinions from SMS Medical College without having to travel repeatedly to Jaipur, health minister Gajendra Singh Khimsar said on Monday. Khimsar announced the initiative while reviewing the Rajasthan Government Health Scheme (RGHS) at the Secretariat. Under the new system, cancer patients at district medical colleges will be able to obtain medical oncology opinions from the specialists through telemedicine. Khimsar said the state has also implemented new cancer treatment guidelines aimed at making the treatment process simpler and patient-centric. During the meeting, he directed officials to develop an AI-based monitoring system to curb irregularities under RGHS. It will help identify pharmacies misusing the scheme and facilitate timely action. He also called for a transparent policy for procuring high-cost medicines and ordered an audit-based evaluation of procurement through the Rajasthan Medical Services Corporation Limited and Green Flag pharmacies offering higher discounts. Additional CEO of the State Health Assurance Agency, Nidhi Patel, said "Applications seeking approval for diagnostic tests costing more than Rs.2,000 are now being processed within 30 to 35 minutes through the RGHS portal." She said daily applications for such approvals have dropped sharply after authorities identified and addressed unnecessary investigations and tests being booked under incorrect categories during review....
