Jaipur, Aug. 6 -- Students of the Government Seth Anandilal Poddar Senior Secondary School for the Deaf staged a protest in Jaipur on Wednesday, raising six demands and alleging poor hostel conditions, inadequate teaching facilities, and harassment by a staff member. As the students are unable to speak or hear, they communicated their grievances to the administration through sign language, placards, and written messages. The protesting students alleged that they were not being provided adequate food in the hostel and that sanitation facilities were in a poor condition. They also claimed they were charged money for speaking to their parents over the phone or for being taken to hospital. The students further alleged that the school lacks teachers proficient in Indian Sign Language, while some teachers frequently remain absent from classes or spend time using mobile phones instead of teaching. They also accused a male staff member of harassing female students and complained that the school's toilets were in a deplorable condition. Following the protest, education department officials rushed to the school. Chief Block Education Officer Asha Gupta met the students and assured them that their grievances would be addressed. She also informed them that Principal Bharat Joshi had been relieved from his post. After receiving the assurance, the students called off their protest and returned to the school premises.
