Jaipur, Oct. 1 -- In compliance with the Supreme Court's order dated August 6, 2025, Rajasthan will phase out the regulated assets (outstanding dues) of state power distribution companies (discoms) by March 31, 2028. Chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma has directed that no additional financial burden be imposed on poor, needy, and farmer consumers during this process, said an official familiar with the development.
As of March 31, 2024, the regulated assets of discoms in Rajasthan had reached Rs.49,842 crore. The state government has initiated a phased plan to gradually eliminate these liabilities in line with the court's directive.
Currently, out of 1.35 crore domestic consumers in Rajasthan, over 1.04 crore households receive subsidies under the state's free electricity scheme. Of these, 62 lakh families consuming up to 100 units per month pay zero bills, while 1.19 crore consumers using up to 300 units monthly will remain unaffected. Further, 37 lakh households consuming between 51 and 150 units will get a rebate of 50 paise per unit, and their monthly charge cut down from Rs.250 to Rs.150....
