Jaipur, Feb. 10 -- Rajasthan government has decided to establish dedicated wellbeing centres in every medical college, along with a state-level wellness cell, aiming to drive comprehensive reforms in medical education with a special focus on students' psychological wellbeing and campus safety. Medical education commissioner Naresh Goyal issued detailed directions during the first meeting of the state-level task force constituted to address the mental health and welfare of medical students. The meeting reviewed recommendations of the National Task Force and emphasised administrative and academic reforms to enhance infrastructure, counselling support and institutional mechanisms within medical colleges. "As part of these reforms, each medical college will establish a dedicated wellbeing centre and appoint a dean (mental wellbeing) to oversee mental health-related concerns of students. Regular orientation programmes for both students and faculty will become mandatory to build awareness and sensitivity towards mental health challenges faced during medical training," Goyal said. To ensure safety and faster resolution of student grievances, colleges and hostels will install strengthened security measures, including barricading of rooftops and improved surveillance systems across campuses. A dedicated student app will also be developed under a grievance redressal system to provide a streamlined platform for students to report issues and seek assistance promptly. Authorities have been directed to expand and modernise e-library facilities to improve academic resources. The reforms further include the creation of peer support groups, structured career counselling programmes and involvement of alumni to mentor current students. Colleges will organise regular yoga sessions, sports and cultural activities to promote a stress-free campus environment. In addition, the Tele-MANAS mental health helpline will be widely publicised across campuses to ensure immediate support during crises. Infrastructure improvements will focus on enhancing hostel environments and introducing 24-hour canteen facilities for duty doctors. The government has also directed institutions to rationalise workloads and involve NGOs and reputed social organisations in supporting student wellbeing initiatives. Commissioner Goyal said the objective of these reforms is to create a safe, resource-rich and compassionate environment....
