State at 2nd spot in Dalit atrocities
Jaipur, Oct. 2 -- Rajasthan recorded the second highest number of crimes against the scheduled castes communities in the country in 2023, the National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB)'s latest report revealed.
According to the data, Uttar Pradesh recorded the highest number of 15,130 such crime cases against SC communities in 2023 followed by 8,449 in Rajasthan, 8,232 in Madhya Pradesh, 7,064 in Bihar, 3,024 in Maharashtra.
Rajasthan's figure also showed a 12% hike from 2021 when the state had 7,524 such cases followed by 8,752 in 2022, as per the NCRB report.
However, the state had improved its conviction rate in crimes against SCs. While Rajasthan had a 61.5% conviction rate in 2023, the figure hit the lowest in 2022 compared to the last 10 years, at 39.4%.
Of 8,449 cases in Rajasthan in 2023, the NCRB report also classified that around 27% of cases are voluntarily causing hurt, 93 cases are of murder, 120 cases are attempts to murder, 136 cases are of kidnapping and abduction while 92 cases were also registered for intentionally insulting or intimidating with an intent to humiliate.
A total of 55 Dalit minors and 631 Dalit women were also the victims of rape in Rajasthan in 2023.
Despite such a high number of crime cases against Dalits, the state was one of three that hit the lowest among the states in the rate of charge sheeting such cases, which was only 44.4% in 2023 followed by Haryana 11.8% and Tripura with 0%.
The NCRB data also stated that around 45% of the total cases were found false at the end of the investigation - the figure is the highest among the states.
Rajasthan was also third in India after Manipur and Madhya Pradesh in the crimes against scheduled tribes,NCRB data showed. The state registered a total of 2,453 such cases that year contributing to about 26.6% of the state's tribal population being victims of some atrocities.
The corresponding figure was 2,521 in 2022 and 2,121 in 2021.
At least 25 tribal people were murdered in the state while 36 others faced some attacks on their lives, and 672 were assaulted brutally.
A total 140 tribal women and 3 tribal minors were raped in 2023, NCRB data showed, while another 124 were also molested.
Meanwhile, the report also showed that around 464 cases are pending for an investigation and 1097 cases were found false....
