Jaipur, Feb. 16 -- The Sawai Man Singh Medical College and Hospital formed a committee on Sunday to probe into the two fire incidents that brokeout at the establishment within 24 hours, officials said.
No serious injuries occurred, but the rapid succession promptedthe formation of a panel on Sunday to investigate and recommend fixes, amid concerns for patient care in a busy emergency hub.
Additional superintendent of SMS Hospital, Dr Pradeep Sharma, said both incidents occurred prima facie due to short circuits. "However, a committee was formed comprising the head of the department of general surgery, Dr Prabha Om, senior plastic surgeon Dr RK Jain, and some officials from the engineering department to probe the two matters and submit a report immediately," he added.
According to officials, plastic surgeon Dr Sunil Shrivastava was conducting surgery on a minor boy in the OT on Saturday afternoon when fire sparked in a corner due to a short circuit from a machine. "Nobody was seriously injured in the incident. The patient and the staff were immediately shifted to a different OT. The fire also came under control in a few minutes when the staff used the extinguisher," said Dr Sharma.
Meanwhile, the second incident occurred at the MAAY counter on Sunday, when, fortunately, no staff or patient was present. "The situation is now under control. Our committee is probing the matter," he said....
