Bharatpur/Deeg, Sept. 9 -- Six people accused of running online betting network with an estimated annual turnover of Rs.70 crore were arrested in Deeg district late on Monday, police said on Tuesday The accused were identified as 45-year-old Laxman Veshya, a resident of Brij Nagar, 26-year-old Saumya Veshya , 36-year-old Vishnu Kayasth, a resident of Alwar, 28-year-old Rajkumar Jatav, a resident of Agra, 65-year-old Gopal Prasad and 20- year-old Jay Prakash Saini, both residents of Brij Nagar. Officers aware of the matter told reporters that under "Operation Shikanja", a police team raided a house in Brij Nagar allegedly owned by Laxman Veshya and busted an online betting operation being run from the premises, said officers. They also seized 14 mobile phones, five laptops, three tablets, two printers, two calculators, Rs.15,070 in cash, betting slips and other related material from the premises. According to police, the network had a daily betting turnover of around Rs.20 lakh. Deeg Superintendent of Police Kamble Gopinath Sharan said the accused were allegedly operating the online betting business from the house using technical equipment. Police said a dedicated betting control room had been set up at the house, with several electronic devices being used to communicate with clients and maintain online betting records. The seized mobile phones, laptops and tablets are being examined to establish the wider network and identify others involved in the betting operation, police said.
