Sirohi pvt hostel owner booked for sexual abuse
Barmer/Sirohi, July 5 -- Six children were allegedly sexually abused at a private hostel operating without registration in Sirohi district, officials said on Saturday, adding that the owner has been booked.
According to officials, the abuse came to light during a joint inspection on Friday by the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) and the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) at the property, following an anonymous email complaint to the DLSA secretary alleging the sexual abuse of a student at the hostel.
Confirming the development, deputy superintendent of police Mukesh Choudhary told HT that a case has been registered against the hostel owner under the Pocso Act.
"The additional superintendent of police is leading the investigation," he said.
The complaint stated that one of the victims was taken to the district hospital in Sirohi for medical treatment following the alleged assault, officials said.
During the inspection, authorities found that the hostel was operating without the required registration.
Officials also alleged that the hostel management initially attempted to conceal the incident.
As part of the investigation, the DLSA and the CWC seized two computers from the hostel and handed them over to the police for forensic examination. Authorities are also scrutinising CCTV footage from the past week to gather evidence.
