Barmer/Beawar, Aug. 28 -- A 10-year-old girl and his eight-year-old brother drowned in a pond in Bhikha Nada in Beawar district, police said on Thursday. According to Ras SHO Pannalal Saini, Rina (10) and her younger brother Rahul (8), residents of Roopnagar, were grazing goats near Bhikha Nada when Rahul slipped while standing near the edge of the pond and fell into the deep water. Seeing her brother drowning, Rina immediately jumped into the pond to rescue him. However, she was unable to pull him out, and both drowned, police said. The incident came to light after some time, following which villagers rushed to the spot and informed the police. ASI Dharmaram Jat reached the location with a police team, and a rescue operation was launched with the help of villagers. The bodies of both children were recovered from the pond and shifted to the mortuary of Ras Hospital. The siblings were studying in Class 5 and lived with their grandmother. Their father works as a labourer and returned to the village after receiving news of the tragedy. The children were cremated on Thursday morning....
