Jodhpur, Oct. 4 -- Sixteen convicts have been absconding after escaping from judicial custody in Jodhpur on September 26, a senior police officer aware of the matter said on Friday. According to Udai Mandir station house officer Sitaram Khoja, the men were brought to the premises of the Special Court under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, Jodhpur and subsequently sentenced to seven years imprisonment each in relation to a 13-year-old case. According to a complaint filed by the court's senior reader Sanjay Purohit immediately after the incident, the challani guard was summoned at 1:20 pm, just after the sentencing. However, the convicts allegedly escaped the premises before the arrival of the challani guard, added the complaint. The SHO confirmed that a First Information Report (FIR) was registered based on the complaint. However, the FIR was not uploaded to the official portal as per due process the following morning nor was it mentioned in the corresponding police bulletin issued on September 27, HT has found. According to the FIR, the absconding accused are Jagdishram Jat (45), Hadmanaram Jat (20), Chaunaram Jat (24), Jagdish Jat (35), Omaram Jat (25), Deeparam Jat (28), Imrataram Jat (35), Achalaram Jat (42), Lalaram Jat (35), Bhikharam Jat (54), Jassa Ram Jat (44), Kumbharam Jat (19), Ashok Jat (30), Poonamram Jat (30), Mangilal Bishnoi (22), a resident of Chadi, and Khinvkaran Singh alias Khiyaram Jat (22), all residents of Padasala village in Osian tehsil, under Section 262 of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). They were arrested in relation to allegations of an attack by a group of 20-25 assailants on a settlement in Padasala village in Jodhpur district, wherein around 6 people were injured....
