RSPCB signs Rs.400-cr MoUs with top institutes for climate centres
Jaipur, Feb. 10 -- The Rajasthan State Pollution Control Board (RSPCB) has signed memoranda of understanding (MoUs) worth Rs.400 crore with IIT Jodhpur and MNIT Jaipur to spearhead two major initiatives: a Centre of Excellence for Climate Change and a Clean and Green Technology Development Centre.
The MoUs were signed at the RSPCB headquarters in the presence of board chairman Alok Gupta, member secretary Kapil Chandrawal, MNIT Jaipur director Prof. Narayana Prasad, and IIT Jodhpur's Dr Deepak Swami, along with senior officials and faculty members.
Chandrawal said under the agreements, the Centre of Excellence for Climate Change will be developed with IIT Jodhpur at an estimated cost of Rs.150 crore, while the Clean and Green Technology Development Centre will be set up with MNIT Jaipur with an investment of Rs.250 crore. The initiatives are being implemented in line with state budget announcements and aim to strengthen Rajasthan's capacity in climate research, innovation, and sustainable technologies.
"The initiatives aim to position Rajasthan as a leader in climate action, innovation and capacity building while ensuring environmental protection and sustainable development," said Chandrawal.
The infrastructure for the centres is being prepared at Jagatpura in Jaipur. Until the permanent facilities are ready, the centres will function from the partner institutions' campuses.
He said the Clean and Green Technology Development Centre will focus on green skill development, circular economy promotion, waste-to-resource innovation, and pollution control research. It will also create data and knowledge hubs for the public, students, and researchers.
The Centre of Excellence for Climate Change will work on policy advisory, technological consultation, climate mapping of Rajasthan, early warning systems, and climate assessment.
