RPSC head, secy posts lie vacant for months
Ajmer, Oct. 17 -- The Rajasthan Public Service Commission (RPSC) has been functioning without a full-time chairman for nearly four months and a full-time secretary for nearly three months, with existing officials holding additional charge ahead of several major recruitment examinations.
The chairman's post fell vacant following U.R. Sahu's retirement nearly four months ago. Senior member and retired Lieutenant Colonel Kesari Singh was subsequently given additional charge.
Chief controller of examinations Ashutosh Gupta has been holding additional charge of secretary since Ramniwas Mehta's retirement nearly three months ago.
The constitutional body, which has a sanctioned strength of one chairman and 10 members, also has vacancies among its members.
Dr Manju Sharma and Sangeeta Arya resigned last year following controversies surrounding recruitment examinations. Kailash Chandra Meena's tenure ended on July 8, followed by Dr Ashok Kumar's retirement on July 31.
Suspended member Babulal Katara's tenure ended on October 14.
The vacancies come ahead of a busy examination schedule.
The Protection Officer examination is scheduled for November, while the Rajasthan Administrative Service (RAS) Examination 2026, Assistant Prosecution Officer examination and School Lecturer Special Education examinations are slated for December.
Kishangarh MLA and Ajmer Dehat Congress president Dr Vikas Chaudhary criticised the state government over the delay in appointments, alleging that it had failed to take concrete decisions despite having sufficient time.
He said the BJP, which had earlier spoken of dissolving the commission, had failed to act decisively.
He also accused the party of using its "Nahi Sahega Rajasthan" campaign to win over young voters and come to power.
Devanarayan Board chairman Omprakash Bhadana said appointments to vacant positions rested with chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, with decisions taken jointly by the party organisation and the government.
He attributed the delay partly to the urban local body and Panchayati Raj elections and expressed confidence that vacancies across the state would be filled soon....
