RHRC takes up issue of stray dog attack at Jaipur airport
Jaipur, Feb. 17 -- The Rajasthan State Human Rights Commission (RHRC) has taken suo motu cognisance of a stray dog attack on an Israeli woman at Jaipur International Airport, issuing notices to key authorities and labelling the incident a grave lapse in public safety at a major international gateway.
This action underscores rising concerns over stray animal menace in Rajasthan, where repeated attacks have prompted directives from the Supreme Court and Rajasthan High Court. With Jaipur as the state capital and a prime tourist hub, the Commission's intervention highlights accountability gaps at critical infrastructure like the airport, demanding swift coordinated measures to protect passengers and prevent recurrence.
The order, passed by commission chairperson Justice GR Moolchandani on Monday, February 16, 2026, refers to media reports on the disturbing incident. An Israeli woman passenger, who had arrived from Delhi, was allegedly attacked and severely injured by a stray dog outside Terminal 2 on Sunday, February 15, 2026. The attack occurred near the arrival gate area. Airport staff rushed to her aid after hearing her screams and shifted her to a private hospital following initial treatment.
According to the commission's order, media reports stated that the same dog had bitten three other persons in the previous week but had not been removed from the premises. It was also mentioned that the dog had already been vaccinated, raising questions about monitoring and preventive mechanisms at the airport. Calling the matter grave, the commission observed that incidents of stray dog attacks are being repeatedly reported across Rajasthan.
