Revised NRI quota fee for medical colleges approved
Jaipur, Sept. 20 -- The Rajasthan Cabinet chaired by chief minister Bhajanlal Sharma, on Friday approved several key decisions, including the establishment of the Maharana Pratap Sports University in Jaipur, revision of NRI quota fees in RajMES medical colleges, and amendments to pension rules benefiting parents and differently-abled children of deceased government employees.
After the meeting, deputy chief minister Premchand Bairwa said the proposed university aims to nurture world-class sporting talent by providing modern facilities, scientific training, and advanced coaching. "The university will focus on sports science, technology, and performance analytics, helping enhance both the quality of sports and athletes' performance," he said. Equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure, it will function as a Centre of Excellence aligned with the National Education Policy and serve as a high-performance training hub.
The Cabinet also approved a reduction in fees for NRI quota seats in RajMES (Rajasthan Medical Education Society) colleges. Earlier pegged at around Rs.31 lakh per year with annual increments, the fees have now been rationalised to 2.5 times the management quota fee - about Rs.23.93 lakh annually.
"This step will make NRI seats more affordable, attract talented NRI students, and prevent seats from lying vacant," said Bairwa. The revised structure is expected to generate nearly Rs.45 crore additional annual revenue for RajMES.
Currently, RajMES colleges reserve 50% of seats under the government quota, 35% under management quota, and 15% for NRIs.
High fees had previously discouraged NRI admissions, forcing many seats to be converted to the management quota, leading to revenue loss.
Parliamentary Affairs minister Jogaram Patel said the Cabinet also approved conditional land allotment for solar energy projects with a capacity of 5,200 MW, which will strengthen renewable energy generation and create local jobs. In another key decision, amendments to the Rajasthan Civil Services (Pension) Rules, 1996, were approved.Parents of deceased employees will now get family pension benefits of up to 50%, aligning with existing provisions for spouses. Mentally or physically disabled children will continue to receive family pension even after marriage....
