Removal of Kalibai's name from books an attack on tribals: Cong
Jaipur, Aug. 27 -- Rajasthan Congress president Govind Singh Dotasra on Tuesday attacked the state government for "removing" local tribal icon Kalibai Bheel's name from the new school textbook that was notified last month.
In a post on X, Dotasra said: "BJP, who imposes RSS ideology in education, has not only denied our history by removing her name, but has also launched an attack on the pride of the tribal communities."
"It is extremely shameful how they removed a historical figure from the textbooks who spread awareness about education before independence and was also shot by the British force when she went to save her teacher," the Congress leader said.
He took a dig at the government saying that they made several hostels, schemes, and statues in her name but did not include her in the textbooks.
"For the BJP, she is not for textbooks but only for tenders. Her life story is an inspiration for the new generation but the education minister is only concerned about the RSS ideology," said the former education minister.
Reacting to the development, BJP spokesperson Laxmikant Bharadwaj said, "The BJP government renamed several schemes on Kalibai Bheel's name to show respect to her. Her chapter was not removed but will be added in senior classes which are currently under our consideration."...
