Jaipur, Sept. 11 -- Political tensions intensified during the municipal election campaign in Lalsot in Dausa district after former minister Parsadi Lal Meena allegedly made derogatory remarks about transgender BJP candidate Meenu. Taking cognisance of a video of the remarks circulating on social media, returning officer Vijendra Kumar Meena issued a notice to the Congress leader for allegedly violating the Model Code of Conduct and directed him to appear in person and submit an explanation. The notice warned that unilateral action could be taken if he failed to respond within the stipulated period. "The former minister has been served a notice. His response is being examined, and further action will be taken according to the rules," the returning officer said. During a rally in support of the Congress candidate on Wednesday, Parsadi Lal Meena allegedly said Meenu, a transgender person contesting from Ward 34, would bring disgrace to Lalsot if elected and that the ward would become identified with the transgender community. He also appealed to voters not to elect Meenu, purportedly saying that the transgender community's role was to serve and bless people, rather than contest elections. Responding to the remarks, Meenu released a video in which she asked, "What is my fault in being born a transgender person?" "I, too, am a human being, and everyone has the right to contest elections," she said. With folded hands, she appealed to Parsadi Lal Meena not to make such remarks, adding that the entire ward and its residents were like family to her....
