Jaipur, Aug. 12 -- Central data presented in the Lok Sabha on July 30 in response to a question by on road accidents nationwide showed that the state logged a 60% spike in the number of accidents reported in 2025 as compared to 2021, which placed it fifth nationwide that year in terms of the number of deaths recorded. The data from the Union ministry of road transport and highways showed that between January 2021 and July 2026, the state recorded 64,085 deaths in 142,209 road accidents in total Out of these, nearly 20% were logged in 2025 alone with 12,493 deaths recorded in 33,590 accidents. Compared to 10,043 deaths in 20,951 accidents recorded in 2021, 2025 logged a 24% surge in the fatality rate, with a daily average of 34 deaths in 92 accidents. A look at nationwide data reveals that the state accounted for nearly 6.5% of road accidents and 7% deaths recorded across the country that year. Only Uttar Pradesh (27,547 deaths), Tamil Nadu (18,511), Maharashtra (16,759) and Madhya Pradesh (14,841) surpassed the state in the number of deaths recorded. The surge over the years is also far greater in the state than in the country as a whole, which logged a 24% surge in accidents, as compared to the state's 60% surge logged during the corresponding period. The provisional figures for 2026 indicate that the state's high road accident fatality rate has continued. Till July, Rajasthan recorded 14,522 accidents and 6,893 deaths. Nationally, around 101,000 people died in around 296,000 road accidents during the corresponding period, translating into around 34 deaths for every 100 accidents. In Rajasthan, the figure was substantially higher at around 47 deaths for every 100 accidents Jaipur remains among the country's deadliest major cities for road users. According to the latest available road accident report from the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, based on 2023 data, Jaipur ranked third among major Indian cities in terms of road accident fatalities. Jaipur recorded 2,915 road accidents and 849 deaths in 2023, according to the report, which covers 50 cities with populations of over one million each.
