Raj identifies over 37k high-risk pregnancies after statewide drive
Jaipur, July 21 -- The Rajasthan government has identified 37,558 women with high-risk pregnancies and ordered intensive monitoring to reduce maternal and infant mortality following a five-day statewide inspection campaign that reviewed the health records of more than 3.56 lakh pregnant women.
The special drive, launched on July 15, was aimed at ensuring that every pregnant woman receives timely, quality antenatal care while enabling health authorities to identify vulnerable pregnancies requiring close medical supervision.
Principal Secretary, Medical and Health, Gayatri Rathore said records of 3,56,783 pregnant women were examined during the campaign, with a detailed review carried out for all 37,558 women classified as high-risk pregnancies. The audit covered maternal and child health services, antenatal check-ups, maintenance of medical records and the overall quality of healthcare services being provided across the state.
To strengthen follow-up, the government has directed that every high-risk pregnant woman be visited by the concerned Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM) once every three days. The frequent visits are intended to ensure continuous monitoring, early identification of complications and timely referral to higher medical centres wherever necessary.
"The objective is to ensure that no high-risk pregnancy goes unmonitored and that women receive appropriate medical attention well before complications become life-threatening," a senior health department official said.
The campaign also surveyed 14,836 pregnant women across Rajasthan to assess maternal healthcare services at the grassroots level. Officials said any shortcomings identified during the field verification exercise would be rectified immediately to improve service delivery.
Beyond reviewing patient records, inspection teams visited 8,414 government health institutions across the state to evaluate healthcare infrastructure. The inspections assessed the availability of essential medicines, diagnostic facilities, functionality of medical equipment, sanitation and compliance with quality standards. In addition, officials monitored 7,731 Maternal and Child Health and Nutrition (MCHN) sessions to evaluate service delivery and identify operational gaps. Departments have been instructed to initiate immediate corrective measures wherever deficiencies were detected.
The intensive review coincided with statewide monitoring of the Prime Minister Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan (PMSMA) on July 18. Health officials supervised 3,062 PMSMA sessions held simultaneously across Rajasthan, where 1,05,629 pregnant women received specialist antenatal care.
The campaign also focused on screening for anaemia, a major contributor to maternal complications. Blood tests were conducted for 98,247 pregnant women. Of these, 12,173 women requiring treatment received Iron Sucrose therapy, while 9,284 women with more severe anaemia were administered Ferric Carboxymaltose (FCM) injections.
To strengthen prenatal diagnostics, the state also distributed 16,634 free 'Maa Vouchers', enabling pregnant women to undergo ultrasound examinations at no cost....
