JODHPUR, Oct. 17 -- The Rajasthan high court has dismissed anticipatory bail applications filed by two women accused in a religious conversion case in Udaipur district, holding that they had failed to establish exceptional circumstances for not moving the concerned sessions court first. Justice Sanjeet Purohit, while dismissing the applications filed by Govind Dhargaye and Puspika Amit Kumar through a common order, clarified that the dismissal did not express any opinion on the merits of their requests for anticipatory bail. The court allowed them to approach the competent sessions court or special court, directing that any such application be considered expeditiously and on its own merits. "The circumstances relied upon by the applicants do not constitute extraordinary or special circumstances as to justify bypassing the jurisdiction of Court of Sessions / special court having jurisdiction over the matter," the bench observed. It rejected their apprehension that sessions court would not consider their applications fairly, observing that bail pleas must be assessed independently on their own facts and merits. The FIR was registered on June 6 at Rishabhdev police station. The case involves allegations of inducement, allurement and coercive attempts to convert locals to Christianity. The FIR invokes provisions of the BNS, the Rajasthan Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act, 2025, and the SC and ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act....
