Jaipur, Aug. 14 -- Rajasthan on Thursday moved a step closer to the long-pending urban local body and Panchayati Raj elections, with reservation lotteries drawn in Jaipur for the head posts of 309 urban local bodies and 41 Zila Parishads, a week after the OBC Political Representation Commission submitted its report to the state government. The reservation lottery for the posts of mayors, chairpersons and presidents of urban local bodies was held on Thursday morning at the department of local self government in Jaipur, while the lottery for Zila Pramukh posts was conducted in the evening at the Panchayati Raj Bhawan in Jaipur. Among the major municipal corporations, the mayoral posts in Jaipur, Jodhpur, Udaipur and Bikaner have been kept unreserved. The mayoral posts in Alwar, Ajmer, Bhilwara, Bharatpur and Pali have been reserved for women, while Kota Municipal Corporation has been reserved for an OBC woman. Out of the 309 posts, 16 have been reserved for SC women, three for ST women, 20 for OBC women and 62 for women in the unreserved category, taking the total number of posts reserved for women to 101. Of the 309 urban local bodies, Jaipur division accounts for the highest number at 91. Of these, 13 posts are reserved for SCs, including four for women; six for STs, including two for women; and 19 for OBCs, including six for women. The remaining 53 posts are in the unreserved category, of which 18 are reserved for women. Ajmer division has 52 urban local bodies. Of these, eight posts are reserved for SCs, including three for women, while 10 are reserved for OBCs, including three for women. The remaining 34 posts are in the unreserved category, including 11 reserved for women. No post has been reserved for STs in Ajmer division. Jodhpur division has 41 bodies. Of these 10 seats are reserved for SCs, including three for women, while 8 are reserved for OBCs, including three for women. The remaining 23 posts are in the unreserved category, including 8 reserved for women. No post has been reserved for STs in Jodhpur division. Bikaner division has 37 bodies, with 5 posts are reserved for SC, including 2 are for women. 7 seats are reserved for OBCs, including 2 are for women. The remaining 25 seats are in the unreserved category, including 8 reserved for women. No post has been reserved for STs in Jodhpur division. Bharatpur division has 32 urban bodies, with 9 seats reserved for SCs including three posts for SC women. Six seats for OBCs including two for women and five for unreserved women. One seat is reserved for STs, no seat is reserved for women. Remaining 16 seats are reserved for unreserved category including 5 for women. Kota division has 28 bodies, with 4 posts reserved for SC's including one post for a woman, while 5 for OBCs including two for women and 19 seats are unreserved, including 6 seats for women. Udaipur division also has 28 bodies, with one post for an SCs, no seat for women in this category. Five are reserved for OBCs, including two women and 18 seats are for the unreserved including 6 women. While 4 seats are reserved for SCs including one seat reserved for women in this category in Udaipur. Separately, the reservation lottery for the heads of 41 Zila Parishads was conducted at the Indira Gandhi Panchayati Raj Bhawan. Of these, eight posts were reserved for SCs, seven for STs and five for OBCs. Jalore was the first district selected in the draw for OBC reservation. Bundi, Beawar, Khairthal-Tijara and Sikar were also placed in the OBC category. The reservation lottery for wards of municipal corporations, municipal councils and municipalities will be conducted at the district level on August 17.
