Raj among top 5 states in Centre's Performance Grading Index: Official
Jaipur, March 18 -- Rajasthan has ranked among the top five states in school education system in the Performance Grading Index (PGI) 2024 released by the Ministry of Education, with its score improving to around 800 points, reflecting significant gains in learning outcomes, infrastructure and governance, said an official release issued from the CMO on Tuesday.
The PGI is a key national benchmark that evaluates school education systems across states on a scale of 1,000 points, based on over 70 indicators.
These include learning outcomes, access to schools, infrastructure, equity, teacher training and administrative efficiency. According to the latest report, Rajasthan has significantly improved its PGI score to around 800, marking a sharp rise from its earlier position in the mid-performing category.
The jump highlights the impact of focused policy interventions and consistent monitoring in recent years, said a senior official.
A major factor behind this progress has been the strengthening of infrastructure in government schools.
Thousands of schools have been equipped with essential facilities such as toilets, drinking water, electricity, laboratories and libraries, making the learning environment more conducive, said another official.
The state has also made notable strides in promoting digital education by setting up a large number of smart classrooms and IT labs. "The integration of digital content and technology in teaching has enhanced learning outcomes and modernised classroom practices," the official added. "Teacher training and capacity building have been prioritised, with educators receiving training in modern teaching methodologies, digital tools and frameworks aligned with the National Education Policy. This has contributed to improved teaching standards across schools," the official said.
