Ajmer, July 24 -- Ana Sagar Lake's water level has risen to 11.5 feet against its full capacity of 13 feet following sustained rainfall over the past three days, bringing an end to weeks of concerns over pollution and deaths of fishes, officials said on Thursday. District collector Lok Bandhu said the rise in water level has also eliminated the foul smell that had emanated from the lake in recent days. The district administration, along with the Municipal Corporation and BJP workers, carried out a three-day special cleanliness drive, removing large quantities of garbage from the lake's periphery to aid restoration efforts. Meanwhile, the Congress observed a successful Ajmer bandh on Wednesday to protest the lake's deteriorating condition, fish deaths and the alleged failure of authorities to prevent pollution. Markets were closed across the city while workers held demonstrations. Police were deployed at sensitive locations to maintain law and order. Meanwhile, assembly speaker Vasudev Devnani said government has prepared a Rs.22.27 crore project to permanently prevent sewage and contaminated drain water from entering the lake. It envisages diverting drains and constructing pumping stations to carry wastewater to treatment plants instead of discharging it into the lake....
