Jaipur/Alwar/Bharatpur, July 21 -- After a prolonged break in monsoon activity, rainfall returned to several parts of Rajasthan on Monday, bringing much-needed relief from heat and humidity while prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue a yellow alert for rain, thunderstorms and lightning in 24 districts. Light to moderate rain was reported from Udaipur, Alwar, Bharatpur, Deeg, Dholpur and Kotputli-Behror districts, with the revival expected to gather pace over the coming days. In Alwar, Monday's rainfall brought visible relief after weeks of hot and humid weather. Children were seen playing and bathing in the rain, while residents gathered on rooftops and outside shops to enjoy the showers. The rainfall brought a welcome drop in temperature, and by evening the weather had turned noticeably pleasant. Farmers, who had been anxiously awaiting the return of the monsoon, welcomed the showers. The prolonged dry spell and intense heat had steadily depleted soil moisture, with crops in several areas beginning to show signs of heat stress. Farmers said that if the forecast of sustained rainfall over the coming days materialises, Kharif sowing will gather pace and fields will retain adequate moisture. Improved rainfall would also help ensure better availability of water and fodder for livestock, easing pressure on the rural economy. Meteorological Department said rainfall activity is expected to intensify from July 21-22 in Kota, Jaipur, Bharatpur, Ajmer and Bikaner divisions....
