Jaipur, Aug. 13 -- Public investment in India has expanded significantly over the past decade as the government focused on building productive national assets and strengthening India's infrastructure ecosystem, Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman said in Jaipur on Wednesday. Addressing a seminar on "The Role of the New Development Bank in Mobilising Private Capital in Member Countries" on the sidelines of the BRICS Finance Ministers' and Central Bank Governors' Meeting, she said the increase in public capital expenditure reflected a deliberate strategy to develop infrastructure. She said the government's approach was to use public capital as a catalyst for private investment rather than as a substitute for it.
