Jaipur, Aug. 10 -- Union health and family welfare minister Jagat Prakash Nadda on Sunday said the Tricolour was not merely the national flag but a symbol of India's honour, pride and the emotions of millions of citizens, adding that every Indian should carry the Tricolour in their heart, and protecting its honour and dignity is their collective duty. Nadda, along with chief minister Bhajanlal Sharma, flagged off the state-level 'Har Ghar Tiranga' rally from Albert Hall in Jaipur, calling upon people to uphold the honour and dignity of the national flag. The rally, held amid light rain, travelled from Albert Hall to Badi Chaupar, with Nadda and Sharma carrying the Tricolour. Nadda said the 'Har Ghar Tiranga' campaign, launched in 2022 following Prime Minister Narendra Modi's call, had encouraged citizens to hoist the national flag at their homes and convey the message of unity in diversity and national integrity. He also described the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Amendment Act, 2026, as an important step towards strengthening respect for national symbols. The national anthem, national song, national flag and Constitution are symbols of India's pride and any insult to them cannot be accepted, he said. Nadda urged people to remember the sacrifices of freedom fighters and martyrs and preserve the dignity of the Tricolour and the freedom secured through their sacrifices. Chief minister Bhajanlal Sharma said the Tricolour was a symbol of self-respect, patriotism and national pride. He said the Tiranga Yatra, launched as part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav under Prime Minister's leadership, was evolving into a people's movement and helping strengthen patriotic sentiment among the younger generation. "The Tricolour flying from every home is an expression of our love and commitment towards the nation. But this respect should reside not only in our homes but also in our hearts," Sharma said. He said the true significance of the campaign lay in incorporating the ideals and values of national consciousness into everyday life. Sharma said the country would celebrate the 80th anniversary of Independence on August 15 this year, describing the occasion as an opportunity to pay tribute to martyrs and freedom fighters who sacrificed everything for the country's freedom. The chief minister also highlighted Rajasthan's connection with the Tricolour, saying that the flag hoisted on August 15 for the first time was made in Rajasthan.
