Pregnant woman dies in Alwar; family alleges dowry harassment
Alwar, Oct. 11 -- A 28-year-old woman who was approximately nine months pregnant died after being hit by a train in Alwar late Friday night, police said on Saturday, adding that a purported suicide note was recovered in which she has accused her husband, mother-in-law and father-in-law of dowry harassment.
Police said they have registered a dowry death case based on the family's complaint. The incident occurred in the Aravali Vihar police station area.
According to her family, the woman married a man from Shakarpur in Bharatpur district about three years ago. Her husband works as a government school principal.
The family alleged that she faced physical and mental harassment over dowry demands shortly after the marriage and had been staying at her parental home in Alwar's Janta Colony for the past five months.
Her brother told reporters that she left home on a scooter around 8 pm on Friday. When she did not return, the family began searching for her.
Police reached the scene after railway personnel alerted them and took the body to the district hospital mortuary.
According to police, the suicide note alleged harassment by her husband and in-laws and sought strict action against them.
Police said that they are examining the note, statements from family members and other evidence to establish the circumstances of her death and verify the allegations....
