Jaipur, Aug. 18 -- The BJP has given key organisational responsibilities to several Rajasthan leaders in its new national team announced by party president Nitin Nabin, with former state unit chief and newly elected Rajya Sabha MP Satish Poonia appointed national general secretary and former chief minister Vasundhara Raje retained as national vice-president.
Jaipur-based senior leader Rajesh Mangal has also been included in the national team, while Udaipur MP Mannalal Rawat has been appointed president of the BJP's national tribal front. Poonia's elevation is being seen as a significant boost to his political stature. He served as Rajasthan BJP president from September 2019 to March 2023 and later handled organisational responsibilities outside the state, including as Haryana in-charge. Although he lost the Amer Assembly seat in the 2023 Rajasthan elections, the BJP's return to power in Haryana during his tenure raised his organisational profile. He was elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha earlier this year.
Political analyst Rajan Mahan said Poonia's appointment marked a major political comeback. "This is a significant elevation for Poonia personally," Mahan said, adding the elevation could also help the BJP reach out to Rajasthan's Jat community....
