Jaipur, Aug. 20 -- Rajasthan has achieved a historic milestone under its "Hariyalo Rajasthan" campaign by planting over 102.1 million saplings this monsoon, surpassing the state government's annual target of 100 million, the chief minister's office said on Tuesday. Minister of state for forest and environment Sanjay Sharma met chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma at his residence on Tuesday and congratulated him. The CM released a poster under the campaign and the forest minister also presented him with a sapling. Sharma said that inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's "One Tree in Mother's Name" campaign, the state government has pledged to make Rajasthan greener. Last year, on the festival of Hariyali Teej, the state government launched "Hariyalo Rajasthan" under the chief minister's mass plantation drive. "The goal is to plant 50 crore (500 million) saplings in five years to promote environmental conservation. For this, saplings are being geo-tagged to ensure their safety and proper care," a statement stated. "Under the Hariyalo Rajasthan campaign, the target last year was 7 crore (70 million) saplings, but the state surpassed it by planting 7.5 crore (75 million) saplings. Similarly, this year's target of 10 crore (100 million) saplings has also been achieved, with over 10.21 crore (102.1 million) saplings planted so far through collective efforts. Since the monsoon season is still underway, the department should encourage people to plant even more saplings," the CM said. He further said that this achievement reflects the awareness and commitment of the people of Rajasthan towards the environment. He emphasised that environmental conservation is a collective responsibility. "Plantation is not just a symbolic act, but a meaningful step towards giving future generations a greener tomorrow. During the occasion, people must actively participate in the campaign by planting more trees," he added.. Under this campaign so far, 3.751 million saplings have been planted at the individual level and 98.3 million saplings at the block level. "Departments such as Education (3.25 crore saplings), Rural Development (2.65 crore), Forest Department (2 crore), Pollution Control Board (50 lakh) and several others have contributed significantly to this drive," the CMO added....
