Ajmer, Sept. 6 -- The "One State, One Election" initiative will reduce repeated poll expenditure and prevent the wasteful use of taxpayers' money, chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma said on Saturday as he entered the campaign trail for the urban local body elections. Addressing BJP workers during a visit to Bhilwara, Sharma took a jibe at the Congress, alleging that it had remained focused on elections while neglecting Rajasthan's economy. He said frequent elections imposed a financial burden on the state exchequer and that his government was working to implement simultaneous polls on the lines of the proposed "One Nation, One Election" model. Sharma said his government was fulfilling the commitment it had made after coming to power. He claimed that people believed development was possible under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership and would turn the BJP's "double-engine government" into a "triple-engine government" by electing party-led urban local bodies. He also claimed that his government had completed more development work in two-and-a-half years than the previous Congress government had achieved during its five-year tenure. The chief minister held a two-kilometre roadshow in Bhilwara amid intermittent rain. BJP workers welcomed him by showering flowers along the route. Before the roadshow, Sharma visited the Dudhadhari Gopal Temple at Sanganeri Gate and offered prayers. After the roadshow, he met party office-bearers, reviewed the election strategy and issued directions for the civic polls. Meanwhile, BJP state president Madan Rathore visited Kishangarh to review the party's election preparations. He was welcomed by Union minister of state for agriculture and Ajmer MP Bhagirath Chaudhary. Rathore urged BJP candidates and workers to maintain restraint and dignity during the campaign. He said party workers were contesting a democratic election and should avoid confrontation and exercise control over their language, even when provoked. His remarks came amid intensifying ward-level contests in Kishangarh, where several BJP rebels and independent candidates have entered the fray following ticket distribution, posing a challenge to the party's official nominees....
