Jaipur, Oct. 8 -- Rajasthan is preparing separate road safety action plans for each district, tailored to local conditions, to reduce road accidents and fatalities, principal secretary Bhawani Singh Detha said. He described Rajasthan as the first state to undertake the exercise in coordination with the World Health Organization. The transport and road safety department has developed the district-level action plan framework in collaboration with WHO, following instructions from the Supreme Court's Road Safety Committee, officials said. Work has begun on implementing the plans. "The primary objective of the state government is to reduce road accidents and minimise the fatality rate," Detha told the media. He said the plans take into account local conditions, accident risk factors, vulnerable routes and accident-prone black spots. He directed officials to work diligently on their implementation and asked all districts to submit their plans to the Transport and Road Safety Department within seven days. Emphasising driver training, Detha said drivers should receive regular instruction on road safety rules, safe driving, speed control, avoiding driving while fatigued and compliance with traffic regulations. According to officials, the district plans identify black spots and other vulnerable locations where the departments concerned must take immediate and effective corrective measures. Officials said the framework prepared with the WHO aims to support targeted, practical interventions based on each district's accident patterns and local needs. htc...
