JODHPUR, July 19 -- A joint committee constituted by the National Green Tribunal (NGT) has found multiple deficiencies in compliance with environmental and mining conditions across several mining clusters in Rajasthan and has recommended that no new mining leases, or expansion of existing leases involving blasting, be permitted in Jaipur's Prithvipura mining cluster until scientific ground vibration studies are completed and existing violations are addressed. The committee's report was submitted before the NGT on Friday in a suo motu case registered on the basis of a news report alleging indiscriminate blasting near villages, schools and temples. It states the committee inspected mining areas in Jaipur, Dausa, Sawai Madhopur, Kotputli-Behror and Tonk between April 27 and April 29. According to the report, the committee found that although most mining lease holders had statutory approvals, several shortcomings were common across the inspected areas. These included the absence of mandatory ground vibration studies despite blasting operations, lack of boundary demarcation pillars, irregular submission of environmental clearance compliance reports, incomplete plantation and CSR records and deficiencies in compliance with environmental clearance conditions.
