ngt: take action to restore lake in bhilwara
Jaipur, July 27 -- The National Green Tribunal (NGT), Central Zone Bench, Bhopal, has directed authorities to immediately implement measures to restore the ecological health of Mansarovar Lake in Bhilwara following allegations of encroachment and the discharge of untreated wastewater into the water body.
The order was passed by a Bench comprising Justice Sheo Kumar Singh (Judicial Member) and Expert Member Sudhir Kumar Chaturvedi while hearing an application filed by the Public Power and Awareness Society, Bhilwara, against the State of Rajasthan and others.
During the hearing, counsel for the Rajasthan State Pollution Control Board (RSPCB) informed the Tribunal that an Action Taken Report had been filed.
The Tribunal directed all remaining respondents who have not yet filed their replies to do so within two weeks.
NGT specifically directed authorities to undertake mechanical and manual removal of aquatic weeds from the lake surface without delay to improve its ecological condition. The matter has been posted for further hearing on September 15....
