Jaipur, Aug. 26 -- Data tabled in the state assembly on August 21 showed that out of the estimated Rs.91,662.65 crore envisioned in the 2024 detailed project report (DPR) for the Ram Jal Setu Link Project, the project has logged nearly 4% on-ground expenditure (Rs.3,629.82 crore) as of July 2026. Responding to an unstarred question by Kota South MLA Sandeep Sharma, the state water resources department said that the project is being built to divert monsoon surpluses from tributaries of the Chambal basin- including the Kunnu, Kalisindh, Parvati, Mej and other rivers-towards the Banas, Ruparel, Morel, Banganga and Gambhir river basins in the state's eastern region. The question specifically sought details of the project's cost, expenditure, implementation timeline, physical progress, beneficiary districts, irrigation potential and land acquisition. The Assembly reply, however, did not provide a specific overall completion date in the portion detailing the project's progress Two key components- the Navnera barrage on the Kalisingh river in Kota district and the Isarda Dam on the Banas river in Tonk district- are complete, said the department. The figures also showed that the government has acquired 6,334.29 hectares of land for the project, including 2,217.04 hectares of private land. The government told the assembly that eight component projects worth Rs.24,092.84 crore are in progress to meet the state's drinking water requirements. Sharma's question had also sought details of compensation issued to families who gave up land for the project. The department said it has issued compensation awards cumulatively worth Rs.633.21 crore for the land and has so far paid off a cumulative Rs.453.07 crore distributed among 6018 families. Land acquisition work was conducted as per the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013, and the Land Acquisition Act, 2016, it said. The department said there was no pending rehabilitation of affected persons under the first phases of the Isarda Dam and Navnera Barrage. According to the DPR, 17 districts of eastern Rajasthan-Jhalawar, Baran, Kota, Bundi, Sawai Madhopur, Ajmer, Beawar, Tonk, Jaipur, Kotputli-Behror, Dausa, Karauli, Alwar, Khairthal-Tijara, Bharatpur, Deeg and Dholpur- will record improved drinking water facilities upon the project's completion.
