Monsoon arrives in state 7 days late, IMD forecasts heavy rain
Jaipur, July 3 -- The southwest monsoon finally entered eastern Rajasthan on Wednesday, arriving seven days later than normal, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting widespread rainfall and heavy to very heavy showers across several districts over the next week.
According to the Meteorological Centre, Jaipur, the northern limit of the monsoon currently passes through Tonk, Jaipur and Alwar. The weather office said conditions are highly favourable for the monsoon to advance into more parts of the state over the next two to three days.
The weather department said monsoon activity is expected to remain active across parts of the Jaipur, Bharatpur, Kota, Udaipur and Ajmer divisions for the next five to seven days, with rainfall likely over most areas. Eastern and south-eastern Rajasthan are expected to witness isolated heavy to very heavy showers during this period.
The forecast also indicates an increase in thunderstorm and rain activity across parts of western Rajasthan, including the Jodhpur and Bikaner divisions, in the coming days.
With the monsoon now advancing into eastern Rajasthan, rainfall activity is expected to intensify across the state, bringing relief from the prevailing heat while improving prospects for the kharif sowing season. However, the IMD has advised people in vulnerable areas to remain alert due to the possibility of heavy downpours and localised waterlogging.
