Modi set to unveil 1st high-tech BS-VI standard refinery on Jul 4
aipur, June 25 -- J Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the country's first high-tech BS-VI standard refinery at Pachpadra on July 4, the state government confirmed on Wednesday, more than two months after the original launch date was postponed following a major fire at the site. The mega project is expected to significantly boost India's refining capacity, strengthen fuel exports, and establish the desert state as a major petrochemical hub.
The refinery was originally scheduled to be inaugurated by the Prime Minister on April 21. However, just a day before his planned visit, a major fire broke out at the refinery site at around 2 pm, forcing authorities to postpone the event.
The blaze reportedly originated in the Crude Distillation Unit (CDU) - one of the refinery's most critical sections, where crude oil received through pipelines is processed before being distributed to other units.
With repairs and operational checks now complete, the government has fixed July 4 as the new date for the Prime Minister's visit.
Chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma chaired a high-level review meeting on Wednesday to assess the progress and functioning of the Pachpadra Refinery-cum-Petrochemical Complex. He sought detailed updates from officials and the management of HPCL Rajasthan Refinery Limited (HRRL) on the refinery's progress and operations, and issued key directives to ensure all preparations are completed on schedule.
The chief minister said Prime Minister Modi would soon formally launch the refinery and directed officials to ensure that every necessary arrangement is in place to make the event a historic occasion.
He described the refinery as a project that would make Rajasthan a strong pillar of the nation's energy security and serve as a growth engine for the state. During the meeting, HRRL's management presented the chief minister with samples of various products now being produced at the refinery, along with a scale model of the facility and a booklet documenting the project's journey.
HRRL officials informed that the refinery will become operational again within a short span following the fire. More than half a dozen units are now functioning, and production of several products has already begun. The Pachpadra refinery has an annual crude processing capacity of 9 million tonnes, sourced primarily from Arab countries along with around 1.5 million tonnes produced within Rajasthan itself. The facility will manufacture a wide range of petroleum and petrochemical products, including petrol, diesel, aviation fuel, polypropylene and butadiene.
Developed by HPCL Rajasthan Refinery Limited (HRRL) - a joint venture between Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (74% stake) and the Government of Rajasthan (26%) - the refinery is one of the most ambitious energy infrastructure projects undertaken in the country.
A key highlight of the project is its integrated petrochemical complex, with a capacity of 2 million tonnes per year, making it one of India's most advanced refining setups. The refinery also incorporates a zero liquid discharge system, ensuring no liquid waste is released - a significant step toward environmentally sustainable operations.
A dedicated network of pipelines for crude supply and product distribution has been built to streamline logistics and cut transportation costs. Refined products will be transported directly to storage terminals for distribution across India, as well as for export to international markets, including Europe. India already exports refined petroleum products to more than 100 countries, and officials say the Pachpadra refinery is expected to further consolidate the country's position in the global energy market.
The Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone of the Jaipur Metro Phase-2 project on July 4, Rajasthan chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma announced on Wednesday while inaugurating and launching development works worth about Rs.631 crore in Jaipur's Sanganer area.
Addressing a function at Sanganer Stadium, Sharma said the state government is prioritising the expansion of basic infrastructure and public services, including electricity, water supply and urban amenities, to ensure benefits reach people at the grassroots level. He said several key decisions have been taken to modernise Jaipur's transport and sanitation systems to meet future urban requirements.
Sharma said Jaipur Metro Phase-2, estimated to cost over Rs.13,000 crore, will significantly improve urban mobility and accelerate the capital city's development.
Work orders have already been issued for the stretch between Prahladpura and Pinjrapole Gaushala....
