man wanted in bank job scams held after 5 yrs
Ajmer, May 5 -- Police have arrested an absconding fraudster in Ajmer, ending a five-year hunt for the man accused of duping dozens of jobless youths of nearly Rs.60 lakh by promising bogus bank jobs, officers said.
The accused, Manish Gehlot, was wanted in multiple cheating cases registered at Adarsh Nagar and Ramganj police stations. According to police records, cases were registered against him under Sections 417, 419, 420, 406, 468 and 471 of the Indian Penal Code. In Adarsh Nagar police station alone, five separate cases from 2021 involved fraud amounts of approximately Rs.2.50 lakh, Rs.2.35 lakh, Rs.1.90 lakh, Rs.2.35 lakh and Rs.4 lakh. The accused posed as a senior bank official and collected money by promising direct recruitment.
Similarly, three cases registered at Ramganj police station revealed frauds of Rs.6.50 lakh, Rs.2 lakh and nearly Rs.38 lakh. Victims were lured with fake appointment letters, training assurances and bank joining offers before the accused went absconding.
Victims Amit Garhwal and Kapil Sankhla stated that the accused introduced himself as an RBI manager and even arranged conversations with dummy persons to gain their trust.
Superintendent of police Harshvardhan Agarwala said the accused had been changing locations for the past five years and used multiple identities to avoid arrest. Permanent warrants had been issued by the court in all cases, and a reward of Rs.5,000 was announced for his arrest.
Acting under the directions of SP Agarwala, a special police team successfully apprehended the accused based on human intelligence inputs....
