JODHPUR, July 8 -- The Special POCSO Court of Jodhpur District on Monday convicted a man for the rape of a four-month-old infant. The court has sentenced the convict to rigorous imprisonment for the remainder of his natural life. Furthermore, prioritizing the rehabilitation and future security of the survivor, the court ordered a compensation amount of Rs.15 lakh to be deposited in a Fixed Deposit (FD) in her name until she attains adulthood. The monthly interest accrued from this FD will be regularly provided to the infant's mother to cover the child's upbringing, care, and nutrition. Special Public Prosecutor Narpat Choudhary said that Judge Dr. Dushyant Dutt, presiding over the Special POCSO Court, Jodhpur District, found the accused guilty beyond reasonable doubt. The convict was sentenced under Section 5(m)/6 of the POCSO Act, 2012, to rigorous imprisonment for his remaining natural life along with a fine of Rs.1 lakh. Additionally, he was penalized separately under Section 65(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. According to case details, the incident occurred on March 14, 2025, while the infant's parents were working as labourers in a factory. The four-month-old baby girl was sleeping alone in a room located within the factory premises. The accused entered the room and committed the heinous assault. As the accused was exiting the room after the crime, he was caught by bystanders. Seeing the critical condition of the infant, her family rushed her to a nearby hospital, from where doctors immediately referred her to Jodhpur due to her extremely delicate and fragile state. Following the incident, the victim's father lodged a First Information Report (FIR) at the local police station. Taking swift action, the police arrested the accused and completed the investigation after which a comprehensive chargesheet was filed before the court.
