Man killed by NSG commando, friends
Barmer, Sept. 19 -- A 25-year-old liquor shop operator was killed and another was critically injured after an NSG commando and his friends assaulted them with sharp-edged weapons, police said on Thursday.
The deceased was identified as Khetaram and his critically injured associate as Harakharam. While another man, Virendra, escaped with minor injuries after falling into a roadside ditch.
According to police, the main accused has been identified as NSG commando Champa Lal, currently posted in Delhi. Officials confirmed that Champa Lal had recently come home for his father's retirement ceremony. "We are in touch with Delhi authorities. Teams have been dispatched to arrest him," said SP Narendra Singh Meena.
Police said that the incident was triggered by a dispute over money at a liquor shop in Hodu village earlier in the evening. Later, around 10 pm on Wednesday, Champa Lal and his accomplices intercepted the victims' vehicle on the Barmer-Jalore highway and attacked them.
Khetaram was declared dead on arrival at Barmer district hospital, while Harakharam was referred to Jodhpur in critical condition.
On Thursday, the victim's family staged a protest outside the hospital, accusing police of negligence in taking the injured to hospital and failing to impose barricades, allowing the attackers to escape.
