Man held for killing 11-year-old boy as part of occult ritual: Cops
Barmer/Pali, May 16 -- A 30-year-old man was arrested on Friday, a day after he allegedly murdered an 11-year-old boy as part of a "human sacrifice" ritual in a village near Sojat in Pali district, police said on Friday.
The boy, Arif Khan, was found dead near a pond inside a jungle near Ramasani Sandwan village, a senior officer said, adding that the body was found with tied limbs and a slit throat.
A broken earthen pot and pieces of bloodstained wood were recovered from the scene, he added.
Sojat DSP Ratan Devasi said that the accused was detained after he approached the boy's family and informed them that their son was dead, adding that his behaviour and the presence of bloodstains on his clothes raised suspicion .
"He confessed that a tantrik had advised him to perform a human sacrifice to resolve his marriage problems. He allegedly lured the boy while he was returning home from a madrasa, took him to the secluded jungle, tied his hands and feet, performed a ritual, and slit his throat," added the DSP.
Devasi added that the accused had a history of interest and alleged involvement with occult practices. He was reportedly nearly evicted from the village for allegedly killing a calf around two years ago, said the DSP.
He added that a probe was underway to trace the tantric practitioner who allegedly instigated the crime.
Meanwhile, locals held a meeting in the village on Friday and demanded the death penalty for the accused....
